SHOPPING
YAMBOL
Yambol has a large pedestrian precinct with many shops and bars.
Here you will find clothes, handbags, shoes and nik-naks at very reasonable prices.
On the outskirts of the town can be found the building suppliers. Blocks, bricks, wood, insulation, steel, roofing tiles – all are readily available. It is worth noting that wood in Bulgaria is not seasoned and can therefore twist like toffee paper as it dries!! Furniture shops are plentiful and the furniture of areasonable standard, though not always as comfortable as in the U.K.
There is a large selection of ceramic tile and sanitary ware shops, most of which sell goods which are either Turkish or Bulgarian. Spanish or Italian tiles are more expensive and may need to be ordered in advance.
Burgas
Much larger than Yambol, here you can find all you need, Masterhouse, Timberland and Mr Bricolage, together with Many resturants makes this a great day out
Elhovo
This small town has a pedestrian precinct too and many shops line this area. These include banks, phone shops, supermarket, cafes, hardware shops and much more. In the side streets you will find garage doors used as shop fronts, behind which a book shop may hide or perhaps a hairdresser, wood store or ironmonger.
Bolyarovo
Most small towns have ‘corner shops’ which include bars. Here you will find shops selling a loaf of bread together with a mop, some vegetables, bucket, socks, taps and flowers. These are the cornerstone of any small town and should not be underestimated.
Local Market Days
Yambol is on Saturday morning selling almost anything.
Elhovo has two markets. On Saturday and Wednesday mornings, where you can find fruit, veg, clothes, horse shoes, net curtains, vines, fruit trees when in season and household items etc.
Bolyarovo has a very small market on Thursday morning.
Topolovgrad’s market is on a Friday and very similar to the Elhovo market.
CAR BOOT
A very small car boot sale has started up in Malomir, take the road towards Yambol and turn off at Konevets, stay on this road through Konevets and straight on to Malomir. This happens every two weeks on a sunday, please ask us when the next one is, if you are interested. The ‘pitch’ is behind the ‘Jack Russell’ pub in the centre of the village. English breakfast is available, as is coffee, soft drinks etc. Many of the British use this as a meeting place, convenient, when many of us live a fair distance from each other
